I have received word from them that, rather than making a change to the existing email, that they are planning to completely replace the email being sent out where you are seeing the duplication of items at some point in the near future (but they have not provided the date.) The new e-mail template being worked on will not have the issue with the items being duplicated. They have closed out the escalation that our team had created.
